Finished!

I bought a book a couple months ago because the word “geisha” was in it. (If you don’t know, I’m obsessed with anything Japanese or about geishas..). Anyway, as usual, I didn’t read it. But at home, there is not much to do. So I picked it out yesterday from my closet, and started to read. I finished it within a day because it was everything I wanted to know about the geisha world muhaha. Actually, the geisha — or, more accurately, geiko — was one of the most famous ones of her generation in Kyoto, Mineko Iwasaki. Arthur Golden, or, as most people know him, the author of Memoirs of a Geisha, based his book upon the facts and stories that this woman told him. However, he was sued by her because she made him promise not to mention her name (which, he did).

AND, geishas were not high-class prostitutes or courtesans. These women were known as oiran. Arthur Golden got everything mixed up!! The book and the movie were all fiction and a complete mix-up of the lives of geisha, women dedicated to art, and oiran, women dedicated to art + pleasure. WAY TO GO ARTHUR GOLDEN

Mineko Iwasaki started training to become a geiko at the young age of 6. She moved into the okiya, or geisha house, when she was 5 (and this was her own decision). This was an awesome autobiography. Memoirs of a Geisha my butt. This is the real deal, yall.

Mineko-san at 6 years of age.. damn, what’d I do when I was 6? (play with barbies…)

Then and now. I wanna be a geishaaaa

Anyway, I am in dire need of a great handbag. It’s gotta be able to fit everything in it like a Bible, journal, makeup, phone, etc. Nothing TOO big like I can fit the Olsen sisters in here status but like.. a fairly good size. I am in love with this bag:

#4 is my fave. It’s a great size, and the color is wonderful. These bags were designed by 4 bloggers (OMG why didn’t they pick me bahhh) for Coach. NO OFFENSE, I am not a fan of Coach. BUT, these bags are freaking awesome. Major dilemma.. this would be my graduation gift. I mean, this is gonna be a major investment bag. Probably the only bag that I will be able to carry until I have a job and can afford a bling bling bag. It’s $498, so totally not bad. However, do I want to spend a little more and get a brand name bag like Gucci? It’d be small though because my parents are not willing to spend G’s on their FIRST daughter/child’s graduation gift (don’t I sound like a brat). Help!
